Weekend Planner for June 23-24
Here's a look at what's going on in the area this weekend including: Peak House Opens with Sword from War of 1812, New England Checkers Competition, and Ice Cream Social at Bird Park.
1. New England Checkers Championship
Where/When: 8 Pine Street, Dover; Saturday, June 23, 8:30 a.m.
Why Go: The New England States Open and District 1 Championship will be held at the home of Richard White in Dover, on Saturday, June 23. Register 8:30 a.m., first round play starts at 9:30 a.m. Over by generally 6 p.m. Tournament will be a round-robin played under rules of American checker (English draughts). New England and individual state championships will be determined. This tournament is sanctioned by the American Checker Federation. There is no entry fee or cash prizes. Anyone may enter. 2. Ice Cream Social at Bird Park

Why Go: Live band, games and ice cream to kick off the summer. Bring a chair or blanket.

3. Saved by the 90's - A Party With the Bayside Tigers
Where/When: , Patriot Place, Foxborough; Saturday, June 23, 7:30 p.m.
Why Go: Danny, Alex, and Nat are graduates of Berklee College of Music who have converged to bring to the masses the timeless, unforgettable, effervescent music of the 1990's. With all your favorite hit singles, it's sure to be a party you won't soon forget. Doors open at 6 p.m., standing room only.

4. Peak House Opens
Where/When: 347 Main Street, Medfield; Sunday, June 24, 2-5 p.m.
Why Go: Peak House will open for the season with a special War of 1812 flair: display of a sailor’s sword (now in the possession of the Medfield Historical Society) that was used during the war aboard the U.S.S. Constitution, Old Ironsides; a history of the ship will also be on display. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. The donated sword has been in possession of the Historical Society for over 100 years.
5. Trivia Tyme at T.G.I. Friday's
Where/When: , 1345 Boston-Providence Highway, Norwood; Sunday, June 24, 8 p.m.
Why Go: Check out Trivia Tyme at T.G.I. Friday's each and every Sunday night at 8 p.m. hosted by DJ Nick. Prizes to the top teams and extra points for best team name.
