VIDEO: Memorial Day 2012 – Honor Them and Never Forget

If you missed Monday's Memorial Day Services in Medfield, don't worry, we've got you covered. Watch the videos below to see Monday's ceremonies at Baxter Park.

During Monday’s Memorial Day Address at Baxter Park, Lt. Col. Todd Caruso said remembering and honoring the service men and women of our country one day a year is not enough.

So as Memorial Day 2012 has come and gone and the majority of us get back to our regular routines, Medfield Patch is spending another day paying tribute to our nation’s veterans, past and present, as well as the current service men and women protecting our way of life.

Those in town Monday lined Main Street to watch Medfield’s annual Memorial Day Parade, before assembling in Baxter Park at 10 a.m. for ceremonies.

Those ceremonies included the Memorial Day Address given by Caruso, who spoke of the true meaning of Memorial Day.

“Memorial Day is not about picnics and parades, although there is nothing wrong with enjoying and celebrating our American way of life,” Caruso said. “But Memorial Day is really about remembering who made our way of life possible. … Never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Lt. Col. Caruso also presented American flags that he flew on a mission over Afghanistan to the town of Medfield and to the Medfield American Legion Post Beckwith 110. See the video above to watch Lt. Col. Caruso present American flags to Board of Selectmen chair Ann Thompson and Frank Iafolla, commander of American Legion Beckwith Post 110.

A number of Medfield students also participated in Monday’s ceremonies.

Medfield High School choral student Caroline Richard sang the “Star Spangled Banner” (see video above) and Blake Middle School seventh grader Liam Dewey read the Gettysburg Address (see video above).  The Medfield High School band, directed by Doug Olsen, performed a Patriotic Selection (featured in the parade video above) and band members Annette Curbow and Grace Murray performed Taps.

Medfield resident and president of the Vine Lake Preservation Trust, Rob Gregg, was on the bagpipes, performing “Mist Covered Mountains” and “Amazing Grace.”

From Baxter Park, the parade continued into Vine Lake Cemetery to honor all who have died or missing in action in service of their country before concluding at the American Legion Beckwith Post 110 to honor all service men and women. Since the American Revolution, 39 Medfield residents have made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their life in war for our nation’s freedom.

This year’s Memorial Day Services was dedicated to the memory of veterans and Medfield residents, Roger Hardy, Bill Kelly and Vincent “Red” Palumbo, who each passed away earlier this year.
