A single mom from Medfield is a finalist in a regional competition for a new roof from O'LYN Roofing: No Roof Left Behind.

In her entry, Eva O'Brien said the family recently learned that the current state of the roof is so bad she will lose her homeowner's insurance if it is not replaced soon. In online voting, her entry is now among two leading finalists. The other finalists live in Braintree and Quincy.

O'LYN, based in Norwood, estimates the prize of a free roof is worth about $6,000 to $12,000, depending on the house and the roof being replaced. The company decided to do this to give back to the communities it serves, said Mark Negron, marketing director.

Already, 900 online votes have been collected for the four finalists, he said. The voting will continue until Oct. 31 and a decision will be made by a contest committee the following day.
