Tornado Watch Issued for Norfolk County, Southern New England

Thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected through Norfolk County and other portions of the state for Friday evening into Saturday.

A tornado watch and flood advisory have been issued for most of Southern New England, including Medfield, through 9 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain and damaging winds are expected to reach the area Friday afternoon and evening, according to the report. 

"Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and tonight," the watch stated Friday.

"Thunderstorms may contain very heavy downpours and cause localized street flooding. Some of the thunderstorms may also contain strong wind gusts, with a few possibly becoming severe this afternoon and evening with damaging winds."

Showers and thunderstorms are likely Saturday, as well, with some thunderstorms containing very heavy downpours, according to a hazardous weather outlook, also issued by the NWS.

Medfield's forecast includes: 

  • Friday, late afternoon -- Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Patchy fog after 5pm. High near 82. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Friday night -- Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 1am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Patchy fog before 8pm, then Patchy fog after 9pm. Low around 71. Southeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
  • Saturday -- Chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. South wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Saturday Night -- Chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 3am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
