Saturday’s Civil War Walking Tour at Vine Lake Cemetery Postponed

Saturday's Walking Tour at Vine Lake Cemetery to recognize the Civil War's 150th anniversary has been postponed due to the weather forecast.

Saturday's weather forecast has postponed the Walking Tour: Honoring Civil War Veterans Buried at Vine Lake Cemetery event.

"With an ominous forecast of rain and possible thunderstorms for this coming Saturday morning, the Trust is rescheduling the Civil War Walking Tour to an October Saturday," said Rob Gregg of the Vine Lake Preservation Trust. "The reenactment company's commanding officer, color guard, drummer, and volunteers will all return for an engagement you will truly appreciate and enjoy."

Saturday's weather, according to the National Weather Service, calls for "rain and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 1 p.m., then a chance of rain and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Patchy fog. High near 74. Southwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible."

Gregg said the focus of the event is to celebrate the cemetery's history through a walking tour to honor Civil War veterans buried at Vine Lake.

“There are 53 [veterans of the Civil War] buried [in Vine Lake Cemetery] and we will visit the sites of 24,” Gregg said. “There will be some pageantry there as well with the color guard and musician from the reenactment company. They will talk about their experiences and why they were formed and what it is they contribute to the celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War.”
