REMINDER: Auditions for MEMO's Joy to the World Singing Contest to be Held Nov. 29

Auditions will be held in the band room of Medfield High School from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Auditions for MEMO's first “Joy to the World Singing Contest” will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. in the band room at the high school on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

The contest commemorates Medfield’s renowned musician Lowell Mason, 1792-1872, father of music in the schools and composer of the well known Christmas Carol, “Joy to the World.” Winners from two categories will appear at the MEMO annual tree lighting and carol sing at Baxter Park on Friday, Dec. 2.

Medfield residents in grades 1-12 are encouraged to register. The contest is open to soloists in Grades 1-6 and in Grades 7-12 and duets and ensembles grades 1-12.

All singing performances either must be a cappella or with portable instrument, such as guitar, played by the singer. The contestant must perform a well rehearsed, familiar holiday song, no less than one and no more than three minutes in length. Registration forms may be obtained at JTTWcontest@gmail.com. Registration is free.

MEMO, the Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization, is the local business organization for Medfield. It consists of more than 70 members whose business is located in the town or serves the residents.

Proceeds of its annual fund raising events such as Discover Medfield Day and Medfield History Day are used to defray expenses incurred with the holiday events, the summer concert series at the Gazebo and to purchase flags flown to honor Medfield residents serving in the armed forces.
