Officials to Distribute New Memorial Plaques in Medfield

New plaques will memorialize war veterans and will be meant to replace older, weathered plaques.

Residents in Medfield may notice a fresher look to memorial plaques throughout town over the course of the next year, according to The Portal, the newsletter of the Medfield Historical Society

Several groups have participated in the project to memorialize veterans in town through the distribution of plaques over the years, including Beckwith Post-American Legion, Medfield's Veterans' Agent and the Medfield Committee to Study Memorials.

"Over the last two decades, one of the ways in which Medfield has honored its veterans who have died in the service for their country has been with memorial plaques installed around town in places where those members of the military lived or worked," a notice in The Portal reads.

But many of the plaques have endured harsh weather conditions and even in some cases theft, and because some new information on certain veterans has arisen, new plaques have been made and will be distributed when the weather is sufficient and appropriate.

Each issue of the Portal will highlight one of the plaques during the next year.
