Medfield Obituaries: June 15 to July 1

Ripley, Robert B., age 81, of Franklin where he has been a resident for one year, died after a lengthy illness on June 27, 2012, at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton.

Born in Lowell he was the son of the late Lindsey N. and Alice V. (Stott) Ripley and attended the Medfield Public Schools graduating with the class of 1949.

Formerly of South Dennis, he had been a long-time resident of Medfield where he was employed as a Sergeant with the Medfield Police Department for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1982. For many years after his retirement Mr. Ripley was self-employed as a building contractor and finish carpenter.

A U.S. Marine Veteran of the Korean War, Bob was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. He was also an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Ann E. “Betty” (Bison) Ripley, his children, Robert B. Ripley of Bonita springs, FL, Cathleen M. Ripley of Franklin and James F. Ripley and his wife Laurel also of Franklin, 6 grandchildren, Patrick, Mathew, James, Melissa and Michael Ripley and Elizabeth DeDoming, as well as a great grandson Maddox Baltramaitis.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Lindsey Ripley Jr.

He was buried with Military Honors at Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield.

Sassone, Ruth S., a longtime Medfield resident, passed away on June 15, 2012, surrounded by her family.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Ruth grew up in Bar Harbor, Maine, and moved to Medfield in 1969 to raise her family. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and making holidays and events special for them.

Being a proud Medfield school bus driver and avid bowler filled her life with many wonderful friends that meant the world to her.

Ruth is survived by her husband Richard, sister Charlotte Skiff of Bar Harbor, ME, her children Jennifer (Baldwin) Reichert, Blair Baldwin, Suzy Baldwin, Scott Sassone and Paula (Sassone) Vogler.

She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Tim, Hillary, Brandt, Arick, Katie, Richie, Kelly, Kristen, and Kerri. 

A future memorial service will be held in Bar Harbor, Maine where she will be laid to rest.

In lieu of flowers,the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
