NSTAR: Medfield Expected to be Fully Restored of Power by Wednesday

27 percent of Medfield's NSTAR customers still without power as of 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Working around the clock, NSTAR reduced the percentage of Medfield customers without power by more than half Monday morning and is estimating full restoration in town for the remaining 1,290 customers without power by Wednesday evening, according to the utility’s website.

As of 8:30 a.m., NSTAR is reporting 1,290 of its 4,772 Medfield customers (27 percent) are still without power as a result of . That number is down from the 2,517 (52.7 percent) reported by the utility company at midnight.

Saturday's storm produced three inches of snow, according to Medfield Weather and the weight of it on trees coupled with high winds has caused mass power outages across town and around the state. To date, 4.75 inches of snow has fallen on Medfield.

Downed trees and wires left 52 percent of NSTAR’s customers in Medfield without power as of midnight Monday. That number was up from the 49 percent first reported on NSTAR’s website Sunday and the 44 percent reported at 10 p.m..

The 2,517 Medfield customers without power Sunday night forced Bob Maguire, Superintendent of to close schools Monday.

“Medfield Public Schools will be closed Monday, Oct. 31 due to power issues effecting the Town of Medfield,” according to the town’s website.

The following communities have the highest percentage of NSTAR customer power outages in the state:

  • Billerica, 100 percent (four outages)
  • Dover, 67.7 percent (1,483 outages)
  • Weston, 51.6 percent (2,204 outages)
  • Sharon, 46.1 percent (3,069 outages)
  • Lincoln, 41.4 percent (1,055 outages)

Lexington has the most outages of NSTAR customers in the state at 4,595.

NSTAR said on its website that all 3,000 of its employees in addition to extra utility and tree crews are “fully engaged in restoration effort and will work around the clock until all customers are restored.”

“At this time, 46,431 NSTAR customers are without power,” NSTAR said on its website. “Most of the outages are concentrated in our western service territory around the communities of Framingham, Waltham and Walpole; and in the south on Cape Cod. Due to downed trees and the severe damage experienced on our system, we're anticipating our clean-up and power restoration work will be a multi-day effort.”
