Medfield Parks and Recreation's Halloween Party Set for Oct. 26

Registration open for Medfield Parks and Recreation's second session of fall programs.

The cool brisk air in the morning and the leaves changing into vibrant colors means fall is officially here and the is holding registrations for its second session of fall programs at the Pfaff Center.

The start of the second session of fall programs is happening over the coming weeks and the recreation department will be offering something for everyone, from toddlers through senior citizens. The brochure is available as a PDF on the department's website at www.town.medfield.net, or you can pick up a paper copy in the office during normal business hours.

One major highlight is the annual Halloween Party at the Pfaff Center, which will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 26. All of the ghoulish fun will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with games, crafts and pumpkin decorating for everyone that comes dressed in their costume. Cost is just $10 per family, and registration is taking place both online and at the Pfaff Center. Only those who are pre-registered are guaranteed a pumpkin to decorate.

The Parks and Recreation also has numerous class offerings for you to choose from, whether for yourself or your child, or both. All classes are listed in the brochure and online, but here is a sampling of what is offered:

Multi-Sport All-Stars: Your emerging All-Star will get a chance to try multiple sports over the duration of this class. As long as the weather cooperates, some activities will take place outside. Games and activities will be centered on sports like flag football, soccer, basketball, floor hockey, baseball and other surprises. Each class will focus on different aspects of these games, with fun and different activities along the way. Class meets Tuesday afternoons or Wednesday mornings.

Icky Sticky Goo: Buckets of fun and stuff. Flubber rubber, shaving cream, finger painting, goo and more. Children should be dressed appropriately for messy work. Class meets on Tuesday mornings at either 9 or 10 am.

Munch, Crunch and More: This class is designed for the child that likes to “savor” their snacks. Does your child feel like they could easily use more time?  This is the class for you. This class will allow time to leisurely read stories, engage in cooking projects and enjoy treats. Your little one will also have time to explore table top activities, board games and floor puzzles. Parents will receive a menu describing what the recreation department will be “cooking up” during the session so that you can try some of the recipes at home. The department will try out new season related recipes with every session. There are multiple sessions available for this class: Monday afternoon, Wednesday afternoon, Thursday morning and Friday morning, all running for 90 minutes.

Kid’s Night Out: Sound familiar? Here’s your chance to let your kids do the cooking and watch a movie while you enjoy a night out. This wildly popular drop off program at the Pfaff Center is designed for children that are in Kindergarten through third grade. Please be sure that your child can easily transition from the cooking activity to a quiet movie. Pizza will be served for dinner each night. The department will have two more offerings before the end of the year, and that will be on Friday, Nov. 18 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The movie will be Mary Poppins, and your child will be making their own cupcake for dessert. Also, Friday, Dec. 16 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., with the movie Tangled and kids will make their own cookie for dessert. Cost is just $15 per child, and register now as space is limited.

Top Secret Science: The students enrolled in this course will be exposed to a wide variety of scientific topics through exciting experiments and beautiful children’s literature. Children will examine the effects of water on polymers using awesome alligators and explore the effects of the sun’s heat and light. Dive into a new topic each week with these thrilling experiments that will be sure to mold minds of these young learners into future scientists. This class will meet on Monday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Circuit Training: This is the perfect class for those looking to improve their overall fitness level. Anything goes in this circuit-style class designed to increase your speed, agility and muscular strength. A combination of cardio and strength conditioning exercises will be used to get your heart pumping and your muscles burning. This adult class will meet on Wednesdays from 9 to 10 a.m.

Body Sculpting: This is a low impact program that sculpts your body with simple movements and exercises to shape your thighs, abdominals and arms. Not strenuous, but highly effective. The instructor’s background as a dancer at the Boston Conservatory gives her the right tools to make sure you are getting the most from this workout. This adult class will meet on either Monday or Friday mornings from 9:15 to 10:05 a.m. or Thursday evenings from 7 to 7:50 p.m. at the Pfaff Center.

Adult Yoga: Start your day with a Vinyasa slow-flow yoga class. This class is designed to synchronize your breath while moving through a variety of yoga postures in a gentle flowing sequence. You will practice postures to increase your strength, balance and flexibility while you establish awareness to your mind-body connection. You will release stress and leave this class feeling both rejuvenated and relaxed. No previous yoga experience is required. Class will meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. There also is a yoga class offered Monday evenings from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.
