MCPE Community Trivia Raises $5,700 for Enrichment Programs

The event raised $5,700 toward a goal of $80,000 to fund grants and enrichments programs within the Medfield school district.

The Center at Medfield was buzzing with excitement the evening of Nov. 15 at the start of the first-ever MCPE Community Trivia Night.

Fifty-two teams came together to not only raise money for the Medfield Public Schools but also to match wits on the topics of music, movies, sports, history, television and more. The event was a sold-out success.

A true cross-section of the community came out to support the event. There were teams from across Medfield -- local businesses, town hall and the schools were all represented.  Medfield community members, with and without children in the schools, put teams together as well.

“It was so much fun," said Park Street Books owner and trivia lover Jim James. I know a lot of people in town from teaching and from the store, and so many people I knew were there. It was great to get out and do something social and different with the people in town.”

The teams enjoyed delicious appetizers generously donated by Whole Foods Bellingham, Noon Hill Grill, Honey’s, Go Fresh, Basil’s and Starbucks and then began answering questions asked by the Stump Trivia DJ, Joe Henry MacDonald, also a Medfield resident.

“I thought it was a great night out,” said Chris Morrison from the “Marsden’s Minions” team. “People seemed to enjoy competing against their friends and neighbors for such a great cause, and the venue was a huge plus!”

After several tie-breaking questions in the championship round, the final results were:

FIRST PLACE -- “All the President’s Men,” including players Ken Brooke, Jeff Griffor, Jim Lee and Jim Maritan.

SECOND PLACE -- “Hardcorked” including players Deirdra Dickson, Alison Currie, Michelle Manganello and Heather Larkin.

THIRD PLACE -- “Junk in the Attic,” including Brian Geraghty, Bill Hunter, Tony Letai and Chris Stephenson.

FOURTH PLACE -- “Stone Ponies,” including Dana Ravech, Matthew Ravech, Tammy Falvey and Jay Caraviello.

“The prizes we gave out to the winning teams were fantastic, and all were generously donated by the community,” said Anna Mae O’Shea Brooke. “We’d like to thank Bullards Market and Package Store, Reebok CrossFit Medfield, Jenny Boston, Medfield Yoga Studio, Kingsbury Club, Personal Best Karate, Zebra's Bistro and Wine Bar, The Dish of Medfield, and Scout Bags by Jesse Pezzullo.”

A number of attendees asked that the event be held again next year and Tracy Boland from the “New Texas” team was no exception.

“I’m so glad for MCPE that [Trivia Night] was such a big success," she said. “Allowing folks to have a drink and get out for a good cause, all amounted to a fun night. I’d recommend you do it again!”

The event was the MCPE’s first fund-raiser of the school year. It raised $5,700 toward their goal of $80,000. The money raised goes toward funding grants that enrich Medfield student’s education.
