Maguire: Medfield High School to Open Showers for Residents Without Power

Medfield Superintendent of Schools Bob Maguire said Medfield High School will open the showers to the gym's locker room from 5 to 7 a.m. Wednesday for residents that are still without power.

Medfield Superintendent of Schools Bob Maguire told Medfield Patch Tuesday the showers at Medfield High School would be open early Wednesday morning for residents who are still without power.

"For the residents still without power, it’s a small percentage, but for those folks it is a real hardship," Maguire said. "They’re having trouble getting water to flush their toilets and having issues with showering and stuff with no hot water so I asked if I opened up the locker rooms at the high school would [someone] take advantage of it and they responded pretty positively to it."

Maguire and Medfield Police Chief Robert Meaney Jr. took a tour of the town Tuesday to see where it is at in terms of recovery from Irene. They stopped and talked with several residents from Indian Hill Road, according to Maguire, "which is one of the areas largely affected."

During those discussions, Maguire got the idea to open the high school's locker room to residents in need and after some discussion with town officials will open the school Wednesday for that purpose.

"We are offering residents between 5 and 7 a.m. showers in the locker rooms for anybody that wants to come up and use the high school gym locker rooms for showers early in the morning before kids get there," Maguire said. "We are going to open them up."

Medfield's Department of Public Works will be placing a message board on Indian Hill Road to inform residents, according to Maguire.

"[Message board will be at Indian Hill Road] because that’s one of the larger areas [affected so people would know]," Maguire said.

As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, NSTAR reported 274 Medfield customers were without power in the areas of, but not limited to, Bridge Street, Indian Hill Road, Granite Street, Plain Street and Philip Street.
