Lending a Hand at the Future Site of the Lowell Mason House

Medfield Patch captured volunteers' efforts to cleanup the future site of the Lowell Mason House through pictures.

A single photograph often tells a story. Here's our look through the Viewfinder at the cleanup efforts of volunteers at the future site of the Lowell Mason House on 59 Green St. this past weekend.

Medfield Patch Editor 'Gives 5' to Community

Patch is not only dedicated to changing the face of community journalism but also in helping its communities through volunteerism.

Our program, called "Give 5" enables Patch editors to take a day and help out in their communities, giving back and volunteering their time for a cause. On Sunday, Feb. 13, I chose to "Give 5" to my Medfield community by volunteering to help cleanup at the future Lowell Mason House site at 59 Green St. Lowell Mason Foundation member Bill Luttman organized the Saturday and Sunday cleanup efforts, asking for  volunteers to help shovel out the new basement to the Lowell Mason House and remove concrete forms and construction debris from the area so work on the site could resume on Monday.

Snow was loaded into wheelbarrows and pulled up a hill to be dumped. I stood next to Medfield Chief of Police Robert Meaney Jr. and Lowell Mason Foundation member Tom Scotti, in a pull-the-wheelbarrows-up-the-hill assembly line. Medfield selectmen Osler Peterson and others manned the wheelbarrows from the basement to the bottom of the hill and we at the top were given a string to build momentum and get the barrow up to level ground. There were 11 volunteers, not counting myself, on site Sunday and I was told more were onhand Saturday.

After the cleanup was finished, the volunteers gathered at the top of the hill for some Dunkin' Donuts coffee and doughnuts, courtesy of Medfield Patch.
