5 Things: Lyme Disease Forum, Film Screening and Spring Sports

Here's a look at the day ahead for Thursday, April 26.

Today's Forecast: Thursday's weather, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for showers likely, mainly after 3 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 64. Calm wind becoming south between 6 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Thursday Night: Showers likely, mainly before 2 a.m. Patchy fog before 9 p.m. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 44. North wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Notable Events:

  • will host a film screening and discussion on the film 'Hester Street' on the library's 10-foot screen at 7 p.m. 'Hester Street' tells the story of Jewish immigrants who come to the Lower East side of New York City in 1896 from Europe and who live on Hester Street in Manhattan. This event is open to teens and adults.
  • A community forum on preventing Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses will be held tonight at 7:30 p.m. at The Center in Medfield. The goal is to educate community members on how to protect your family and pets from tick-borne illnesses, including Lyme disease. Hosted by the Medfield Lyme Disease Study Committee, the forum will feature three speakers: Lester Hartman, MD from Westwood-Mansfield Pediatrics; Jessica Young, DVM from Medfield Veterinary Clinic; and Jean Sniffin, RN, Medfield's Board of Health public health nurse. Information on personal, pet and property protection as well as local tick-borne illnesses will be discussed.
