Vendors, shoppers and volunteers at last Thursday's market raved about the strawberries for sale, calling them "the best ever."

The first farmers' market of Medfield's second season of the weekly event on the grounds of the was deemed a success by vendors, shoppers and volunteers who agreed the strawberries were the best ever.

A minimum of five vendors and several civic and service organizations will be setting up for business at 2 p.m. on the grounds of the First Parish Unitarian Church, 26 North St. each Thursday.

The anchors of the 2011 season were the organic family owned Langwater Farm of Easton, Langwaterfarm.com and Wards Berry Farm of Sharon/Foxboro wardsberryfarm.com. Joining them is Garden Farms of Bellingham with gourmet jams, jellies, relishes and mustards that are unique as well as tasty. Big Sky Bread of Watertown sells a variety of artisan breads. Wild Daisy Soap is a vendor from Walpole whose soaps are made of all natural products without artificial additives or preservatives.

Although the anchor farms plan to appear weekly, other specialty vendors may appear from time to time, so it is important to shop at the market weekly to see what or who is new.

June is a great time to think salads as green leafy vegetables, radishes, cucumbers and other healthy veggies come into season, and don’t forget the strawberries. What a great time to enjoy what all these vendors have to offer early in the season and to anticipate new produce monthly. Buyers should also be prepared to sample the various specialty items being sold.
