5 Things: 40B Hearing, Book Fair and Jewelry Workshop

Here's a quick look at what's happening in Medfield today, May 9.

Today's Forecast: Wednesday's weather, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Areas of fog before 11 a.m. High near 69. Southwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.  Wednesday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Areas of fog between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 53. Southwest wind between 6 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

ZBA Public Hearing with Gatehouse Group, LLC: The Medfield Zoning Board of Appeals will continue its public hearing with the Gatehouse Group, LLC regarding its proposal of a 96-unit affordable housing apartment complex off West Street. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Chenery Room (second floor) of . The agenda, according to Norma Cronin – administrative assistant for the Zoning Board of Appeals, is expected to be the hiring of consultants and discussion/presentation of reports from various town departments. The public is invited to attend.

Crystal Cave Offers Sound Healing Session: The , located at 50 Park St., will be holding a 90-minute sound healing session Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. – courtesy of SoundScapers. Some of you may have seen the segment on sound healing Dr. Oz did two weeks ago on his show. This deeply relaxing, healing, and transformative event features crystal sound bowls, the human voice, Native American drumming, and the didgeridoo. Participants lay on the floor (bring a yoga mat, blanket, and pillow) or sit in one of the provided chairs. Cost is $20.

Notable Events:

  • Support the MHS Boosters /All Night Graduation Party by picking up a delicious lunch or dinner at .  When you place an order from 2 to 9 p.m., Subway will donate 20 percent of all sales to the "Class of 2012's All Night Graduation Party." Available for order in, or take out.
  • will hold a Book Fair and Literacy Night from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Celebrate the joys of reading by choosing from a huge selection of books provided by BookEnds. The event will also feature readings from teachers, crafts, stories and more.
  • The Medfield All Night Graduation Party (ANGP) Committee will hold a decorating workshop tonight from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in the cafe. Volunteers are always welcome to assist in these weekly decorating workshops. Many hands are needed and all are invited to attend. No experience necessary, just your willingness to help.

  • Students in grades 6-12 are invited to create a beautiful piece of unique wire-wrapped jewelry for Mother's Day. The jewelry workshop will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. in the conference room. Space is limited so be sure to sign up HERE or call the library at (508) 359-4544.
  • The Medfield Job and Business Networking group will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Daily Room. This Open Networking Group provides support for job seekers who are looking for a new job, changing careers, or those interested in building their professional network. All are welcome to attend.
  • Pattycake Place Story Time will take place at 10:45 a.m. Children, ages 0-23 months old are invited to participate in the interactive storytime with their caregivers. Also at the library today, will be the Book Bunch Storytime, beginning at 11:30 a.m. for preschoolers, ages 2 and up.
  • Children and teens in grades four and up are invited to stop by the Medfield Library every Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. to choose and play from a collection of Wii games. The gaming station will be set up in the lower level meeting room.

Warriors' Wednesday

  • The boys' and girls' tennis teams face Dover-Sherborn at 4 p.m. today. The girls' team will play at home while the boys' team travels to Dover. 
  • The baseball and softball teams travel to Dover-Sherborn for 4 p.m. games.
  • The boys' volleyball team travels to Xaverian for a 6 p.m. match.
