Destination Imagination Tournament

Experience the great minds, amazing problem-solving skills and creative solutions of Medfield students at the Destination Imagination (DI) regional tournament on Sat, March 22 at Medfield High School.   17 Medfield teams from Wheelock, Dale Street, Blake and the High School will compete in a field of 103 teams from Wrentham, Sudbury, Franklin, Dover and other area towns.   Spectators welcome, free admission.   Teams will present their solutions to one of the following challenges:  1) DIG IN – to solve this TECHNICAL challenge the team must design and build Equipment that detects and moves objects.  The team must also present a story about technology that detects things a human can not sense without help.  2) GOING TO EXTREMES – to solve this SCIENTIFIC challenge the team must demonstrate knowledge of Extreme Environments that exist.  The team must design and create Extreme Gear and present characters who adapt to extreme conditions in order to survive.  3) LAUGH ART LOUD – to solve this FINE ARTS challenge the team must create live comic strip panels and theatrically present a comic strip based on a team-selected work of art.  The team must also design and create an ARTifact and a “Caption Contraption”. 4) PANDEMONIUM – to solve this IMPROVISATIONAL challenge the team must integrate three randomly selected Improv Elements.  The team will have five minute Preparation Time and a fourth Improv Element will be revealed and integrated while on stage.   5) THE TENSION BUILDS – to solve this STRUCTURAL challenge the team must build a Structure that will be tested against two forces at the same time.  The team must design a prop in a measured space and tell a story how tension as a threat to stability is overcome.   6) PITCH & PLAY – to solve this SERVICE LEARNING challenge the team will design and carry out a Project to address a community need.  The team must create a live presentation that features a team-created “Elevator Pitch”.    7) CIRCUS – to solve this INTRODUCTORY non-competitive challenge the team will learn about circuses, the role of the ringmaster, balancing things and geometric shapes.  The team will bring these elements together in a three ring circus performance.   For more information, email medfielddi@comcast.net or visit www.madikids.org
