Social Media Safety for Parents, Two-Part Series Starts Thursday

The two-part social media safety series begins Thursday and is aimed at the parents of fourth through eighth graders.

1. The first of a two-part series on social media safety, aimed at the parents of children of fourth- to eighth-graders, is at 7 p.m. Thursday at Blake Middle School's auditorium. The session Thursday features Dr. Elizabeth Englander, a professor of psychology and director of the Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center at Bridgewater State University. She will address how to supervise and guide children through social media.

2. The second part of this series, arranged through the Medfield Public Schools, is on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. It will focus on specific social media programs that parents may not be as aware of, including Snapchat, AskFM and Instagram, and how kids are now using them.

3. Dale Street School CSA is selling Medfield water bottles as a fundraiser. The deadline to purchase the 24-ounce Nalgene bottle, which has the Medfield logo, is Oct. 3. 

4. The Medfield Library will hold its Book Sale from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 3 for "Friends," only, and then from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 (Half-price begins at 3 p.m.); and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 (Fill a bag for $7) for everyone.

5. The Medfield Fire Department will hold a Fire Safety Open House on Oct. 8 featuring demonstrations of how to exit a burning building, and other hands-on activities.
