Medfield Selectmen to Recommend Red Gate Farm Land Purchase

Here are five things to know to help inform your day.

1. Medfield Selectmen agreed unanimously Tuesday to recommend Special Town Meeting voters on Monday approve the purchase of 31 acres of land on Philip Street, part of the original Red Gate Farm land. The purchase of $1.4 million would have to be authorized in an election, as well as town meeting. The selectmen all cited the importance of increasing public access to the land, and assuring permanent protection of the hay fields from development.

2. If you have ever cursed the narrow access to CVS from Route 27, help may be arriving soon. The store plans to present a plan to the Medfield Planning Board this month that would increase the width of the exit and entrance onto the corridor. The store hopes to have the curb cuts approved and in place by November.

3. Medfield Selectmen on Tuesday appointed Jennifer Polinski to the Board of Health. The board could use two more volunteer appointees. Please contact the town administrator's office if interested.

4. The Medfield Public Library will install a temporary "Storywalk" along the path leading to the library, in place beginning Friday through Nov. 1. A Storywalk is a series of storyboards that tell a children's story, and will be held in place by tomato stakes.

5. Save the Date: the Medfield High School Field Hockey team will hold a car wash behind Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19.
