Medfield High School game preview.
Medfield and Dover-Sherborn renew their rivalry on the lacrosse field Friday evening in Dover as the boys’ lacrosse programs play for sole possession of first place in the Tri-Valley League. Both teams enter Friday’s game with perfect TVL records and are the only two teams to win the TVL in the league's 10-year history. D-S is currently 6-0 in the league and 9-2 overall while Medfield is 5-0 in the league and 7-1 overall. Adding to the excitement of Friday's TVL showdown is this will be the first time these teams take the field against one another since Dover-Sherborn’s surprising 7-5 victory…
Correction (March 29, 2012 at 9:20 p.m.): This story has been revised. An earlier version incorrectly suggested former Medfield High School boys’ lacrosse coach Bob Aronson violated the MIAA’s out-of-season coach-contact rule and the following clarification is needed: Medfield High School's administration made the decision not to renew Aronson's contract. No further details on that decision were given as the administration has declined to comment on personnel issues. Presently, any suggestion that the boys' lacrosse program was in violation of any MIAA rules this past off-season, as …

Rivalry, tradition and bragging rights – that’s Thanksgiving Day football. Thursday’s Turkey Day tilt between Medfield and Dover-Sherborn will feature all the above as both teams meet for the 46th time Thursday at 10 a.m. at Medfield’s Calvin George Fisher Memorial Field. With nothing left to play for beyond pride and the final score, game 13 on the schedule is the biggest of the season for both schools. “Thanksgiving week is a special week in Massachusetts,” said Medfield head coach Erik Ormberg. “The games this week are a culmination for many teams. “A lot happens on Thanksgiving and I …
With two games remaining in the 2011 season, head coach Erik Ormberg expects his Medfield High School football team to compete and execute its game plan for four quarters, starting Friday night in Millis. “We have to play four quarters of football, limit mistakes and penalties and convert big plays on special teams,” Ormberg said. Last week, Medfield went toe-to-toe with Hopkinton for the first quarter-and-a-half, but in the span of 23 seconds, the Hillers pulled ahead for good. “The game changed in 23 seconds going from 0-0 to 13-0,” Ormberg said. “We hung in there until the fourth quarter, …
Homecoming is an exciting time for past and present Medfield High School students and Friday marks the annual football game at Calvin George Fisher Memorial Field. Medfield (2-6, 0-3) hosts Hopkinton (7-1, 2-1) at 7 p.m. in a Tri-Valley League Large Division matchup. “The players are excited for the homecoming game,” Medfield head coach said Erik Ormberg said. “We told the seniors that this is their last home game under the lights. The game is the conclusion of spirit week at MHS and we hope to have a great crowd and festive atmosphere.” Part of that festive atmosphere will begin at 5 p.m. as…
Last week, the Medfield High School football team moved away from its clock control running style on offense and used an impressive passing attack to defeat Norton, 32-16 to end a three-game losing streak. This week, the Warriors will look to continue that momentum on offense when it travels to Medway Friday. “[Quarterback] Alex Opiela is on the same page with TJ Valente and Tim Bernard,” said Medfield head coach Erik Ormberg. “Things are starting to click and the offensive line is giving Alex time to make his progressions. Our running back, Conor Davis had a great game on film. His effort on…
It has been a trying first six weeks for the Medfield High School football team as the Warriors enter Friday’s game at Norton with a 1-5 record and 0-2 in the Tri-Valley League Large Division. After suffering its third straight loss last week, Medfield spent the week at practice focusing on scoring in the red zone and forcing turnovers on defense over 44 minutes. “We need to play four full quarters of football,” said Medfield head coach Erik Ormberg. “We are planning on all players to contribute in some way. Our goal is to execute at full speed.” Norton enters Friday’s tilt with the Warriors …
After suffering Tri-Valley League Large Division losses in back-to-back weeks, the Medfield High School football team will look to rebound Friday night when Bellingham comes to town. On paper, this matchup looks to be just what the Warriors (1-4, 0-2) need, lining up against a winless Blackhawks team (0-5, 0-1). But Medfield head coach Erik Ormberg knows these games are not played on paper. “At 0-5, they are hungry and want to win,” Ormberg said of visiting Bellingham. “Their quarterback [Kevin McTomney] is 6-feet 2-inches and 225 pounds and can throw the ball a mile and is accurate with his …
In its second league game in six days, the Medfield High School football team will look to limit Westwood’s offensive chances Thursday by controlling the ball and line of scrimmage. “Offensively, we need to win the line of scrimmage and move the chains,” said Medfield head coach Erik Ormberg. “We are evolving into a ball control offense and the more we can limit Westwood's opportunities with the ball, the more we like our chances. We didn't have any turnovers last week and we want to extend that streak.” Medfield (1-3, 0-1), coming off a 42-14 loss to Holliston in the Tri-Valley League Large …
It’s a big night for the Medfield High School football team. The Warriors open its 2011 Tri-Valley League Large Division season against defending TVL and Division 3A Super Bowl champs, Holliston. “Holliston is a talented team that knows how to win,” Medfield head coach Erik Ormberg said. “We have a tall challenge in front of us. The kids are excited.” The challenge, according to Ormberg, is facing a “talented team that expects to win all their games.” “Holliston is the defending TVL champs and the defending Super Bowl champs,” Ormberg said. Someone needs to take that away from them and our …
It is week three of the high school football season and Medfield is searching for its first win. The Warriors (0-2, 0-0) take the field against a familiar opponent Friday, facing Tri-Valley League foe Ashland (2-0, 0-0) at 7 p.m. on the Clockers’ field. Ashland, a team that has struggled in recent years, is 2-0 and playing well, according to Medfield head coach Erik Ormberg. “We expect a balanced attack,” Ormberg said. “They run and throw the ball well. Colin Daly is a playmaker at running back, they have an accurate quarterback and their offensive line gets off the ball. They are the most …
Coming off an 18-0 loss at home to Oliver Ames to open the season, the Medfield High School football team has turned in a strong week at practice as the Warriors prepare for Friday night’s game against King Philip Regional in Wrentham. “Morale is high,” said Medfield head coach Erik Ormberg. “The kids know the bar is set high and have responded. This week in practice we focused on tackling, execution, clock management and bettering our pursuit angles.” Last week, Medfield (0-1, 0-0) lined up against a talented duo of running backs, Samuel Langston and Carlton Williamson, that guided OA to an …
It’s Game Day for the Medfield High School football team as the Warriors open the season against Oliver Ames of Easton tonight on the MHS turf at 7 p.m. “OA is a strong, run-heavy team that will spread the field and work to get backs in open spaces out of the backfield,” said Medfield head coach Erik Ormberg. “They have a north-south runner, who is elusive, but not afraid of contact.” Ormberg, making his head-coaching debut tonight, said the key for a Medfield victory will be sustaining long drives offensively and getting strong play out of its special teams unit, which Ormberg has focused on…
Medfield High School's fall athletic programs saw plenty of success in 2010 and will aim to continue that success in 2011 when seasons open this week. Seven of the eight MHS fall programs qualified for the state tournament a year ago and two won state championships (girls' soccer and girls' volleyball).  The Warriors' girls' soccer team will begin its MIAA Division 2 state title defense Tuesday when they travel to Norton for a 3:30 p.m. game. The Medfield High School boys' soccer team also opens Tuesday, hosting Norton at 5 p.m. Here's a roundup of how Medfield's eight varsity programs look …
The Medfield High School boys’ lacrosse team finds itself in familiar territory in what otherwise has been anything but a familiar season. Medfield (14-7) and Foxborough (19-3) square off Friday at Foxborough High with a trip to the MIAA Division 2 East Sectional State Tournament final on the line. That should come as little surprise to those familiar with the success of the Medfield boys’ lacrosse program. The Warriors entered this year’s tournament as defending state champions and have won four state titles since 2004. While no stranger to success in the state tournament, there were …

The Warriors and Eagles play a 2011 MIAA Boys' Tennis South Sectional Division 2 semifinal at 3:45 p.m. on the Sharon High courts. The winner plays for the South Division 2 final against the winner of Wednesday's Hingham-Scituate semifinal, according to the tournament bracket. Sharon is seeded first in the 15-team tournament. The Eagles finished 2011 at 16-0 and received a first-round bye. They defeated nine-seed Falmouth, 3-2, in the quarterfinal. Medfield is seeded …
Another Thursday night hockey special for Medfield High School boys' hockey fans as the Warriors face-off against Pembroke in what is surely to be an exciting, action-packed game as soon as the puck drops at 5:15 p.m. in  the Gallo Arena.  After knocking off the No. 2 team in the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional State Tournament on Sunday, Medfield set a date with 11th seeded Pembroke tonight in the Sectional Semifinals of the MIAA Division 3 South state tournament. The Warriors are the bracket's 10th seed and Pembroke is 11, so the Warriors will be playing in their home whites. But don't let …
This one is going to be tough. Opponents become more talented and match-ups become more difficult as a team progresses through the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional State Tournament. After knocking off Silver Lake Regional, 6-2, and Medway, 4-2, the Medfield High School boys' hockey team faces its greatest challenge of the season: Abington- East Bridgewater. Boys' Hockey: (10) Medfield (14-5-3) vs. (2) Abington (16-2-3) Gallo Arena, Bourne/Buzzards Bay, 5:30 p.m. MIAA Division 3 South Sectional State Tournament, Quarterfinals After stumbling a bit down the stretch, the Warriors have turned …
And then there were two ... Medfield High School is known for having outstanding sports programs and that held true this winter with gymnastics, indoor track, swimming, boys' and girls' basketball and boys' and girls' hockey all making state tournament appearances.  But only two teams are still in play as of March 3 and both teams take the ice tonight. The MHS boys' hockey team began its 2011 MIAA Division 3 South state tournament run with a 6-2 victory over Silver Lake Regional on Feb. 28 in the South Sectional preliminary round. The Warriors will face-off against a familiar opponent tonight…
