The Medfield High School girls' tennis team opened the 2011 MIAA Division 2 South Sectional state tournament with a 5-0 victory over Milton, advancing to the quarterfinal round against Hingham on Monday, June 6. "Great win over Milton in the first round of the tournament," Medfield head coach Chris DuBose said. "Alex Freeman played one of her best matches defeating Ariana Launie, the South Section Singles Finalist." Freeman was down 4-1 in the first set but won six of the last seven games to win the set. The Medfield High School girls' tennis team earned the second seed in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament after posting a 20-0 record this season and winning its second straight Tri-Valley League Championship. The Medfield High School girls' track team placed 10th out of 32 schools competing in Friday's 2011 Eastern Massachusetts Division 3 Outdoor Track Championships on May 27. Schools competed in 18 events and Bishop Feehan of Attleboro won the meet with 97 points. Medfield finished with 22 to earn the top 10 finish. The meet was held at Oliver Ames High School in North Easton. The Medfield High School boys' and girls' track teams followed up successful dual meet seasons in the Tri-Valley League with an impressive showing at the TVL Championships Thursday afternoon in Westwood. The Medfield boys' track squad (7-2, 7-2) placed second behind Hopkinton in a field of nine TVL teams with 69 total points. The Hillers ran away with the TVL title, recording 127 points. The Medfield High School boys' lacrosse team (11-3) had no trouble with Tri-Valley League rival Westwood (9-5) Tuesday evening, as the league leading Warriors remained a perfect 9-0 in the TVL, winning 18-4. Cal Given and Davis Parsons led the Medfield attack with four goals apiece and Derek Etzkorn added a hat trick. Medfield High School senior and girls’ track star, Alex Stanton broke a second school record in less than a week on Monday, setting the mark in the 400m with a time of 58.7 seconds. Stanton also set the school’s mark in the 100HH on May 5 against Ashland. As a team, the Warriors have continued to dominate their competition this spring, posting lopsided victories over Ashland (112-24 on May 5) and 100-35 over Millis on May 9. Medfield High School softball freshman Dannielle Vaclavik went 4-for-4 with a triple and senior captain and pitcher Julia Biedrzycki tossed five solid innings, striking out six and allowing just one run in a 16-1 victory over Millis Monday. The Medfield High School girls' lacrosse team continued its quick start to the season, knocking off rival Dover-Sherborn, 16-7 Friday night at D-S. Medfield High School baseball pitcher Mike Keleher struck out nine Bellingham hitters over seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 Medfield victory Tuesday at Curt Schilling Field. Keleher, allowing just four hits Tuesday, improved to 3-0 this season and continued his dominance on the mound, posting the following numbers: 21 innings pitched, 30 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.00. The Medfield High School boys' and girls' outdoor track teams took the field at MHS Monday against Tri-Valley League foe Bellingham High School in their 2011 home opener and did not disappoint, earning one-sided victories to even their records at 1-1 this season. A day after earning its first win of the season, the young Medfield High School softball team faced a difficult challenge in an experienced and talented Hopkinton team. The result was a 9-1 Hillers' victory Friday at Shonda Schilling Field, but the game was much closer than the score dictates.
