Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

About this column:

Osler Peterson has lived and practiced law in Medfield since 1989, and been a Selectman since 2001. He created a blog, Medfield 02052, to address a perceived information gap in Medfield. He is looking to better communicate all the information he learns at the Town House as a result of being a selectman to the people of Medfield in his blog. Medfield Patch will feature his blog posts in this column.
The following is an update on the road construction on North Street and Green Street from Selectman Osler "Pete" Peterson. It originally appeared on his personal blog Medfield02052 on March 6, 2013. North & Green Sts. status I queried Ken Feeney at the BoS meeting last night about what will happen when on North Street and Green Street, while he was in to discuss his budgets, and this is his expected time frame: 2013 – water main will be replaced in Green Street, and North Street paving will be improved, similar to the gas line trench on the East side of North Street. The final upgrades to …
Medfield's respite care program will continue one more year, according to Selectman Osler "Pete" Peterson's personal blog, Medfield02052, and Roberta Lynch, the Director of the Medfield Council on Aging. "Roberta Lynch tells me that the Council on Aging’s grant from the Metrowest Health Foundation to provide respite care at The Center has been extended for another year.  Roberta said that the Metrowest Health Foundation expects them to get their census up over the next year.  The hope is that the program will become self-financed once the census increases." About the Program The program is …

The following is taken from Selectman Osler "Pete" Peterson's personal blog, Medfield02052. I have just finished looking over Gatehouse's Application for tax credits that the town received this week. Let me know if anyone wants to look it over. It is in a 5" notebook that I guess contains 1,000 pages.  My major take away was how much money there is for Gatehouse via those tax credits.  For the first phase, which is the first half of the project, the Federal tax credits were about $8.5m. and the state tax credits were about $3.4m.  For that first phase, of half the project, the sources and …
The following is taken from the personal blog of selectman Osler "Pete" Peterson called Medfield02052.  Starbucks still a go  November 12, 2012 I had noticed as I jogged that the Mobil station pumps have had their hoses removed and the station looks closed (and ratty), so I asked at our meeting of the Board of Selectmen last Tuesday whether the town should be looking whether to take some action.  Kristine Trierweiler responded that the developer who has been pursuing the Starbucks at that location had in fact recently been in contact with her, that he is still going forward with the Starbucks…

On Thursday, Nov. 8, representatives from the town's Medfield State Hospital Mediation Committee and the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) provided a status update to the town regarding their efforts and the progress to date of trying to reach agreement on an adequate and appropriate cleanup for the construction and demolition (C&D) area on the state-owned property.  Selectman Osler "Pete" Peterson attended that meeting. He noted, "Seven sessions of mediation have been held and more are still needed.  The goal to date has been to better define the facts." To read …

The following was posted by Selectman Osler "Pete" Peterson on Oct. 8 in his personal blog "Medfield02052"   Editor's Note: Medfield's swap area is an open-air space at the back of the transfer station where items are dropped off daily but thrown into a dumpster at the end of the day. It is not open year-round. There has been some discussion about putting a permanent structure there so it can be open year-round. What do you think of a year-round swap area in Medfield? Tell us in the comment section below. The original blog post... Swap year round Posted on October 8, 2012 Yesterday I visited …
This was taken from Osler "Pete" Peterson's blog, Medfield02052. Medfield has a problem - people cannot seem to get notification of upcoming meetings in which they are interested. I am told that the Bayberry and Stagecoach Road neighbors missed our last Board of Selectmen meeting where their beaver problems were discussed because they were apparently not aware that the Board of Selectmen would be discussing their beaver problems that night.  And this morning I missed a Building Committee meeting that I wanted to attend because I did not get notified that it was happening. My work around has…

Editor's Note: The following relates to the Bay Colony Rail Trail and appeared as part of Osler "Pete" Peterson's blog Medfield02052 on 8/28/12.   BCRT meeting last night The Bay Colony Rail Trail committee met last night, and I attended most of the meeting, until I excused myself to attend the continued ZBA hearing on the Gatehouse 40B on West Street. These were the highlights that I heard: The state budget has $250,000 for the Bay Colony Rail Trail included, presumably inserted by Rep. Garlick. There was discussion on how that money would be accessed.  A substantial anonymous donation has …

In his personal blog, "Medfield 02052" on Wednesday, Selectman Osler Peterson's addressed the beaver issue on that is causing trouble for residents on Bayberry Road and Stagecoach Road. Work to remove the dam is scheduled to begin this week, weather permitting. Here is Peterson's post.   On Tuesday, the Board of Selectmen heard from several residents of Bayberry Road, Stagecoach Road, and Nauset Street who complained of standing water in the Stop River that is being caused by beaver.   Residents said the standing water was a public safety concern for children in the area who might fall into it, the increased chance of mosquitos and EEE, the foul odor, and the potential to damage house foundations and septic systems.  Town officials said they would do all they could to help the residents who have had no luck trying to find the right agency or department to address the …
I have learned as a selectman that I acquire lots of specialized knowledge on how town governments budget and operate in Massachusetts.  As a result, I got to thinking that it might make sense for the town of Medfield to tap into that specialized knowledge that is shared by its former selectmen, all of whom have gone through a similar process of being educated about how to run a town in Massachusetts.  So, I began to ask our former selectmen, when I came across them, if they would be willing to serve the town as part of an ad hoc advisory committee, and they have indicated that they would. I …
The Board of Selectmen has asked the town's Affordable Housing Committee to develop an affordable housing production plan and the Board of Selectmen is currently seeking people to join the Affordable Housing Committee to assist in the creation of that affordable housing production plan for the town. The affordable housing production plan is what defines the town's policies and goals in terms of affordable housing, and having and implementing an affordable housing production plan can also provide protection against unwanted 40B developments. Anyone interested in working on this issue for the …
Editor's Note: The following is what Medfield Board of Selectmen chair Osler "Pete" Peterson took from Thursday's PIP meeting on the Medfield State Hospital property with DCAM, published in his blog "Medfield 02052." The DCAM meeting at the Town House Thursday was attended by an overflowing, hot, and angry crowd of what I estimate to be 80 to 100 residents.  DCAM was presenting its final analysis of the issues and the clean up options it has chosen, but the meeting quickly got sidetracked from the planned agenda to deal with citizen anger over DCAM failing to totally remove the toxic …
