Beantown Pub

Boston’s duck tours all stop in front of the Beantown Pub, sitting across from the Granary Burial Ground, and proclaim, “The Beantown Pub is the only place in Boston where you can have a Sam Adams across from Sam Adams.” You see, the original Sam Adams has been buried at the Granary Burial Ground since Oct. 1803 and somehow must look upon the Samuel Adams Brewery with a certain amount of amusement.
In the shadow of the Suffolk University Law School and the Tremont Temple Baptist Church sits a little piece of history on Tremont Street. The Beantown Pub is a narrow establishment, where past the long bar is a more open area with pool tables.
My first indication of this being more bar than restaurant should have been the name, Beantown PUB. The second was the nice large man telling me I couldn’t take pictures inside the place (so apologies in advance for the lack of pictures.) The third was the sound of the blasting music, causing me to yell at the person I was with or the bartender.
The food menu was simple, and we were guided to the Lobster Roll. The Lobster Roll had rather dry lobster smushed into a grilled hot dog bun. My dinner companion had calamari, again proving anything fried is good, and Buffalo Wings. The fact Buffalo Wings remained on the plate at the end of the evening were indicative.
The ambiance is dark with loud music. The place was packed with twenty somethings out for an enjoyable evening.
As a college – area pub, the Beantown Pub was rocking and a blast. It’s a pub serving pub food, as opposed to a restaurant with a bar. If you are looking for a quiet intimate restaurant in the area, the Beantown Pub is not the place.

I went to Suffolk Law so we would go here quite a bit. It is a pub. With pub food... 21st Amendment is much better and is close by. I didn't know they didn't let you take pictures inside there though! Seems a bit extreme. Though I guess if you really need to have a Sam and look at Sam, this is the place to be :)

Thanks, Kira. Suffolk Law has quite the facility there...and perhaps the Beantown Pub doesn't want the next generation of Attorneys hassled with cameras. You nailed it...pub. A fun pub, to boot!

Yes, and I always wondered what John Hancock would think about his signature being the corporate logo for an Insurance Company! Thanks for the review, Gary. It's hard to find a good Lobsta roll, don't you think?

Thanks, Trish. I have debated doing a post about the "best" Lobsta roll, and believe more research is happily needed. http://www.lobster-shack.com/ in Ogunquit, ME is one of my faves. Perhaps next summer the quest will begin!!

Hate to tell you Gary, but the lobster salad or roll at JP's is over the top. Don't have to wait for summer or pay four bucks a gallon......

Ron, the view from Perkins Cove is better than the Westmeadow Plaza. We need to get you out of Northborough more. :-)

Ogunquit is almost a second home for us, but when we go to the cove we go to MC's (run by the Arrows guys), which on a Sunday morning with small concert jazz group and the heavenly view and food is perfect. Just don't try it in the summer. I do agree about the view, but also like a comparative taste test, so we'll have to try that. I suspect you're not the only one who wants me out of Northborough, however. :-) Fortunately, lots of travel to Florida and California planned for the next few weeks.
