CEOs everywhere are actively looking to hire full-time seasoned executives who can help grow their companies - in this economy! These jobs pay at or above $200K/year. But you won't find them on job boards. In fact, they aren't even published yet. Here's how you can find one.
These executive jobs are part of what we call the "Hidden Job Market." Here are some statistics in a 2011 report by Execunet:
- 92 percent of executive jobs at or above $200K/year are not posted publicly online.
- 68 percent of executive jobs are discovered through networking.
“Private confidential communities or networking is where these executives are finding jobs” - Robyn Greenspan Editor-In-Chief, Execunet.
Don't just network at industry events. Become a speaker or panelist and network while wearing that all important speaker badge. Get yourself known for what you are great at.
Start attending events completely outside of your industry too. If you're great at supply chain in one industry, you'll bring a much needed new perspective and new insight to the supply chain in another industry.
Create a job! (Don't wait for congress. They're out for the summer, remember?) Listen, every CEO I know has some challenge they believe is constraining their growth. Be the answer they are looking for. Do your research on companies that are challenged with what you are great at. Call up the CEO or CFO or COO, and start the conversation! (email me jackieb@btind.com, if you're ready for some quick How-To advice)
Here is a list of what companies say are the most sought after executive characteristics:
- Ability to build and lead high performance teams
- Industry-specific experience
- Leadership skills
- Strategy and execution leadership
- Change agent
How many of these skills do you have? The more of these skills you have, the more the company you really want to work for is already looking for you - in this economy. What are you waiting for?
"Hired! For What You Are Great" At is a weekly series. Each week we will share actual successes, new methods that work and practical advice for active job-seekers and career-changers of all ages. Share with us and everyone in this community your own successes too.
