Starbucks to Open by September

Developer Salvatore Capital Partners purchased the former Mobil site on Thursday.

Town officials say plans are now in full swing to open a Starbucks in downtown Medfield by the fall.

"I believe they closed as of this morning," said Assistant Town Administrator Kristine Trierweiler at Thursday's meeting of the Downtown Study Committee.

"They're still on target with Starbucks," said committee Chairman Brandie Morris. "They have a 10 to 12 week construction schedule...Their goal is to be opened by September."

Morris said she and Police Chief Robert Meaney Jr. met with the developer Greg Salvatore earlier on Thursday to discuss the project.

The developer has a hearing with the planning board on Feb. 25 and hopes for approval of the project by early March.

Salvatore has hired a traffic consultant who will review the traffic patterns and will make changes to the entrance and egress of the former Mobil site at the busy intersection of Main and North Streets.

"It will end up probably being the same as they have at the [Needham] Bank...so it doesn't tie up traffic," said Morris, where the bank has restricted turns onto Main Street.

The town will also be analyzing and resynchronizing the Main Street traffic lights at Pleasant Street, North Street, and Route 27 to help ease traffic flow.

While I am happy that Starbucks is finally coming to Medfield, I am disappointed that it will be in the Mobil site. The developer should have considered Lords where there is so much parking in the back as well as frontage for cafe tables outside which would have enhanced that section of town. I can't imagine what the parking is going to be like in the small Mobile space. Another parking disaster like CVS.

This is great news! Medfield will be enhanced by Starbucks presence.
The next great improvement will be if we can get Trader Joe's in the Lords site.
That would be the BEST for Medfield residents since we all travel pretty far to shop at Trader Joe's. Lords is the perfect spot for Trader Joe's -- location and parking!! :-)

Cannot wait for the weekly fender benders and massive traffic congestion that the Starbucks will cause at North and Main!!

Not a huge fan of chains in a small town. I'm glad Friendlies is gone and I have no use for Subway when Go Fresh and Italian Groceria serve much more interesting sandwiches and wraps. I hope Medfield NEVER gets a Dunkin Donuts. But if there's going to be another chain in Medfield, Starbucks is a good choice. It's more aesthetically pleasing and the defunct Mobil station is an eye sore. And does get more sit-down traffic than just in-and-out traffic like DDs.

I always wanted a Trader Joe's closer. The one is Needham is a pain to get in and out of. But now that there's a nice big TJs at Patriots Place (with beer and wine), I doubt another one will open in the area. I'm very pleased with the TJs at Patriots Place.

I'm hoping for unique non-chain stores or restaurants in the former Lords building. Unfortunately the way modern economics works, its the chains that can get capital from the banks to open new stores. It's unfortunate when you go to any town or mall all over the country and they all have the same shops and restaurants. We can still hope that something interesting goes in.

At least we still have Park Street Books.

Lets hope the site's not contaminated. Could cause years long delays. Medfield downtown needs investment dollars. Good luck to any retailer trying to get established here.

Ah, Ken, there's already a Dunkin Donuts in Medfield. Personally I'm in agreement with John and Sean, the traffic will be rediculous. And it will be direct competition for the little mom & pop coffee shop across the street so I'm not pleased about that.

I don't get why everyone wants a big chain to go into Lords! Come on folks, the parking lots is shared with the library. I personally moved to Medfield for its small town feel and charm!! How about a decent pizza place and and ice cream parlor?? Place where Medfield families can go and see familiar faces, friends etc....
