Residents Talk State Hospital and Selectmen Approve Bid for Bituminous Patch to Riley Brothers

Medfield selectmen discussed issues surrounding the _ for more than an hour Tuesday, focusing on the town's expected mediation sessions with the Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM) and other issues regarding the cleanup of the site.

Thirteen residents and state hospital abutters attended Tuesday's meeting to voice concerns and have questions answered. Among the residents' main concerns were with DCAM's proposed Partial Remediation Plan and continued to stress the town's need to make the state fully cleanup the site. Mediation was another hot topic Tuesday regarding the state hospital, as residents were not pleased to learn the mediation sessions would not be held publicly. Residents also voiced frustration over Selectman chair Ann Thompson's many attempts to end public discussion of the state hospital issues and move on to other items on the agenda. She later explained she is in favor of hearing new questions and comments but does not want to hear the same comments over and over again.

Town Awards Bituminous Patch Bid to Riley Brothers

In other town news, selectmen approved DPW Superintendent Ken Feeney's request to award the bid for Bituminous Patch to Riley Brothers for $64/ton at plant with an alternate to Aggregate Industry at $64.35/ton a plant.

Norfolk County Mosquito Control Board Suspends Aerial Larvicide Applications

Selectmen acknowledged a notice that the Norfolk County Mosquito Control Board would be suspending aerial larvicide applications due to "very dry conditions."

"[Norfolk County Mosquito Control Board] will continue to do ground spraying where needed but the aerial applications would cease until there was more rainfall," said Medfield Assistant Town Administrator Kristine Trierweiler.

Selectmen Give Final Review of Warrant Articles

Town Administrator Michael Sullivan led the selectmen in a final review of the warrant articles before the Annual Town Report was printed and prepared for distribution.

The review lasted roughly half an hour and as selectmen went over each of the 28 articles in the Town Report. Trierweiler said the Annual Town Report was printed Tuesday night and residents should expect to receive it in Saturday's mail.

Selectmen Appoint Kirsty Young to Park and Rec Commission

Selectmen voted to appoint Kirsty Young to the Park and Recreation Commission to fill the vacancy on the board.

Selectmen Approved the Following Licenses and Permits

• The Gazebo Players of Medfield's request to use the Gazebo Park on July 28 and 29 to perform their 11th Shakespeare in the Park production, Antony Cleopatra and request to post signs for two weeks prior to the show.
• Church of the Advent's request for a one-day wine & malt permit for their Silent Auction to be held on Saturday, April 28.
• Norfolk Hunt Club's request for a one-day wine & malt permit for Thursday, May 24 and a common victualler license for May 24, 26 and 27 for the annual Horse Show. 
• Medfield Destination Imagination teams' request to conduct a fundraising car wash on two Saturday (April 28 and May 12) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Medfield High School Student Council's request to hold a Homeless Sleepout event on Friday, May 4 on the lawn of Town Hall.
• Medfield High School Student Council's request to hold the fourth annual Running Water 5K race on April 29 using the same route for the past three years.
• Kevin Lynch's request to place signs promoting their annual Bicycle Drive in conjunction with Medfield Green Day on Saturday, May 5.
