Mother Nature's other shoe finally dropped Monday night in what has been a surprisingly mild winter in Medfield.

With the exception of the October Nor'easter, which forced nearly half the town to be without power at one point, Medifeld has experienced an unusually dry and warm winter.

Those out and about Medfield Monday night were reminded by falling snow what winter in New England is typically like midway through January.

The National Weather Service issued the following "special weather statement" Monday:

"A period of snow is expected to overspread the region late Monday and continue into the overnight hours. Snow accumulations of a coating to one inch are possible. Since it has been very cold the past few days, untreated roads may become snow covered and slippery for a time overnight. The snow should change to rain from southeast to northwest between 3 and 7 a.m. Tuesday morning."

The NWS advised motorists planning to travel overnight to be prepared for untreated roads that would become snow covered and slippery.

The photos above are scenes around town as snow fell late Monday night.As of Monday night, Medfield Public Schools had not been delayed or cancelled.
