The Medfield Animal Shelter is looking for a foster home for Sara since they think she is going to need to have some orthopedic surgery due to luxating patellas on both back legs.

Sara is described as "an adorable little Chihuahua" that was rescued from an extremely neglectful situation where she and three other little dogs (Tiger, also at our shelter is from the same place) lived their lives chained up inside an unheated shed.

Sara is a little shy, but responds to kindness and gentle petting. She is affectionate and sweet. It looks like she has had many litters of puppies even though she has very bad knee problems that we are hoping can be helped with surgery.

The shelter is currently looking for a foster home for Sara so she recuperate in a home environment after her surgery. She came to us thanks to pilot4pets.org (part of the Massachusetts Animal Coalition).

If you would like to foster Sara after her surgery, you may send an e-mail to info@medfieldshelter.com.

Your donations are more valuable than ever, thanks to this year's Matching Challenge fundraiser. Even the smallest donation makes a big difference for local animals in need.

"Our matching challenge is scheduled to run from now until Jan. 15, 2012 — or until $15,000 in matching donations has been reached," the shelter said. "This year's challenge grant will help us to continue meeting the needs of the many cats, dogs and other critters we are asked to help every day."

Tax-deductible donations can be sent to Medfield Animal Shelter, PO Box 271, Medfield, MA 02052.

You can also donate online by going to www.medfieldshelter.com and clicking on the "Donate" link.
