Friday Night Hoops On Tap For Warriors

Previewing tonight's boys' and girls' basketball games with predictions.

It is Friday which means the Medfield High School boys' and girls' basketball team are in action. The boys' have been improving each game after a 0-3 start, winning their past two contests (Holliston, Westwood). The girls' have been winning since opening night and look for their seventh straight victory tonight in Bellingham.

Boys' Basketball:

Bellingham (1-5, 1-4) vs. Medfield (2-3)
Medfield High Gym, 6:30 p.m.

The Warriors come into this game on a two-game winning streak, snapping a three-game losing streak to begin the season. Medfield has improved as of late, showing stronger efforts on defense and more consistency on offense. The team still needs to limit its turnovers but after an impressive, 67-59 overtime victory over Westwood Tuesday, things are looking up for Big Blue.

Bellingham comes into the Medfield High gym tonight in last place of the Tri-Valley League, losing five of its first six games. The Blackhawks' lone win of the season was a 54-49 victory over Ashland on Dec. 17.

Prediction: This has all the makings for a Medfield blowout – but that's why these games are not played on paper. The game may not be won by 25 or 30 points but this is a good opportunity for Medfield to build on its newfound momentum and even its record to .500. Look for the Warriors to win fairly easily.

Girls' Basketball:

Medfield (6-0, 5-0) at Bellingham (0-5)
Bellingham High Gym, 6:30 p.m.

First-place Medfield travels to last-place Bellingham tonight, seeking its sixth win in the Tri-Valley League this season. The Warriors have played great interior defense all season and are coming off a tremendous offensive performance against Westwood Tuesday (22 points in the first quarter). Bellingham has struggled to score points this season and will likely find even more difficulty tonight against the tough Warriors' defense.

Prediction: Stranger things have happened in sports than a winless team knocking off an unbeaten team, but don't expect it to happen tonight. Expect everyone on the Warriors' bench to see some action as Medfield should cruise to its seventh straight victory overall and sixth in the TVL.

Smith's season prediction record: 4-1.
