Medfield Town Historian Richard DeSorgher compared Mike Lane's running style while playing for the Medfield High School football team to that of current New England Patriots' bruising running back, Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis.
"You would think he was down and then all of a sudden he would be off and running again," DeSorgher recalled while reminiscing 16 years of calling Medfield High School football games.
Lane, a 2007 Medfield High School graduate, finished his Warriors' career with over 4,000 rushing yards.
After a year of prep school at Worcester Academy, Lane enrolled at Division 3's Endicott College in Beverly and has carried his success at MHS over to the college level, instantly emerging as a star with the Gulls.
Now a college senior, Lane recently added to his impressive career with the Gulls, setting an Endicott record for touchdowns scored in a game with four against Plymouth State Oct. 15 on Homecoming Weekend, according to Endicott College's website.
Lane rushed for 147 yards against Plymouth to turn in his sixth straight game with at least 100 yards and a touchdown, according to Endicott College Athletics. The Medfield native scored on runs of four yards, 11 yards, eight yards and three yards. In seven games this season, Lane has rushed for 1,052 yards and nine touchdowns.
With last weekend's 49-0 victory over Plymouth State, Lane and the Gulls continued their record-setting start to the 2011 season by improving to 7-0 (4-0 New England Football Conference Boyd).
