The 7th Annual John Hancock Birthday Plunge, a fundraiser between Quincy Beaches Coastal Commission (QBCC) to benefit Interfaith Social Services (ISS) will be held at Wollaston Beach in Quincy on Saturday, January 19th at 10:30 a.m. Plunge participation categories include: ‘Full Plunger’, ‘Waist Wader’, ‘Knee Higher’, ‘Dunking Toe-Nut’, & ‘Geez—I Would if I Could’. ISS has been operating for 65 years: it has helped thousands of residents in the south shore area, through its programs: The Pantry Shelf food program which distributes over 350,000 lbs. of food to hungry families and individuals; The New Directions Counseling Center helps clients who need emotional or mental health assistance; Home Safe is a homelessness prevention & emergency assistance program which assists hundreds of South Shore families each year; The Career Closet distributes free professional attire for low income job seekers to wear to job interviews; and The Bureau Drawer Thrift Shop offers low cost clothing and household goods to thousands of low income families every year. Chickie has many roles at ISS; she greets clients at the front desk, is the cashier at the Bureau Drawer, is very active in ISS fundraisers, and is a member of the ISS Board of Directors.
