An Invitation to join the new Medfield Community Singers

Rehearsals Starting for Community Singers in Medfield

For over a generation, the Medfield-based Community Singers have drawn adult singers to enjoy weekly practices at the UCC church and rehearse for their annual concert. Attracting some 60 singers at the height of its popularity, in recent years the group experienced a decline in membership and decided to disband after its last concert in 2011.

Now, a group of enthusiastic former Community Singers has made a fresh start under the name of “Medfield Community Singers” and is inviting former as well as new members from Medfield and surrounding towns to sing with them. Starting on Monday, September 17, at 7:00, the group will meet to rehearse at the First Parish Church in Medfield, under the leadership of its new conductor, Everard Huggan. The repertoire this year will focus on world music and contemporary gospel, and the emphasis will be on the social and community aspects of singing together for enjoyment. Performances in various venues will be planned once the group has found its voice.

No audition is required, but singers must be at least of high-school age. The group will assess itself an annual fee of $ 100 per member, in order to cover its expenses and save the time otherwise spent on fundraising.

Interested singers are invited to participate in the first practice at 7:00 on September 17. Location: the downstairs vestry at the First Parish Church, 26 North Street, Medfield (across from Zebra’s).  Free parking is available behind the church and on North Street. For questions about the group, please contact Alexandra Compton at apcompton1@verizon.net.
