History of Medfield State Hospital Now Airing on Medfield.TV

Medfield.TV (Comcast 8 and and Verizon 47) is now airing “A World Apart – Mental Illness and America’s Abbey on the Hill,” a 35-minute film about the history of Medfield State Hospital.

This beautifully filmed movie written, produced, and directed by Dr. Carl Edwards, gives a historical summary of how the Medfield State Hospital was at the forefront of mental health treatment for over a century.

The film describes the close relationship that has lasted for 115 years between the State Hospital and the Norfolk Hunt Club, and where surrounding hospital fields and trails were frequently used for “drag hunts” and training foxhounds.

The movie is being broadcast frequently on Medfield.tv (check on-line schedule for times) and also available through video-on-demand by connecting to the website:   http://blip.tv/medfieldtv

Reinstating limited equestrian use of the Hospital grounds for the Hunt was unanimously supported at the Selectmen’s Meeting on January 29, 2013, which may also be viewed through Medfield.tv.

Submitted by Gil Rodgers, 24-year resident of Medfield and member of Norfolk Hunt Club.
